Reasons to seek a Children Emergency Dentist

Dental emergencies in children are way more common than you think it is. Children are prone to traumatic dental injuries and dental decay, requiring the urgent attention of our dentist.

Toothache

Toothache

The most common culprit for toothache is dental cavities or dental decay. Children love munching on chocolates and slurping on sugary drinks. This makes them susceptible to dental decay, which ultimately leads to excruciating toothache if not treated early. Dental decay can advance to involve the inner layers of the tooth, which leads to intense toothache. Your child may not even be able to communicate with you properly about their pain. In such a situation, it becomes imperative you consult our dentist immediately without delay.

In specific situations, the infection can infect the entire tooth and even lead to the formation of an abscess. This can cause excruciating pain, and your child may refuse to eat because of the pain. Check your child’s mouth and see if you have any signs of decay or swelling and contact us immediately.

Broken, chipped, or fractured tooth

Children and playgrounds are inseparable. Children love to frolic around the playground, ride slides and whatnot, and they tend to fall now and then. However, if they fall face first, it can lead to severe facial trauma and fractured tooth. A broken or chipped tooth can also result from biting on something hard. It can create jagged and uneven edges of the tooth, leading to irritation of the tongue and further trauma. Trauma to the mouth can also injure the gums and soft tissues, causing bleeding. In such a situation, ask your child to bite on a piece of cloth or cotton gently. You can also apply ice to the injured area. Apart from this, keep the broken tooth part with you safely and call us immediately. We will schedule an emergency appointment for you at our dental clinic.

Knocked-out tooth

Knocked-out tooth

At times, the injury to the facial region can lead to a knocked-out tooth. In such a situation, the tooth comes out of the socket completely. It can lead to severe trauma to the socket and the gums, causing profuse bleeding. There is no time to wait for anything in such a situation; call us, and we will schedule an urgent appointment for you with our children emergency dentist. Collect the tooth and put it in a container with milk until you reach our dental clinic. Ask your child to bite a piece of cotton gently to stop the bleeding. Do not try to clean or disturb the tooth and the socket by yourself.

The earlier you come to the clinic, the better chances of the tooth to get reimplanted. Our dentist will clean the tooth and the socket with antiseptics and reimplant them.

Tongue/lip bite

If your child has bitten their lip, cheek or tongue, clean the injured area gently with water. You also use ice wrapped in a piece of soft cloth to gently compress that area to reduce the swelling and control the bleeding. Next, immediately call us to talk to our children emergency dentist and assess the seriousness of the injury. You also schedule a pediatric emergency appointment with us for prompt treatment.

Object stuck in teeth

Small children have an unusual habit of putting things in their mouth, and sometimes small things or food particles can get stuck between their teeth and gums. This leads to intense pain and discomfort and also cause injury. You can try to use dental floss to remove the stuck particle. However, ensure that you are not using a stick of metallic objects as this can cause more damage to the gums and teeth.
